ABSTRACT - DELIVERABLE 386

Key indicator species of climate change impacts

Many freshwater species are directly affected by temperature increase or droughts. Some are affected by stressors, which are influenced by Climate Change, such as eutrophication, while others will benefit from temperature increase and colonise new areas.

On the website a selection of species is given which are negatively or positively affected by climate change. The species were selected to cover different organism groups (macrophytes, invertebrates, fish), different ecoregions and ecosystem types (lakes, rivers, wetlands). This part of the website is planned to be continuously updated by adding further species and literature references.

Here we present ecological profiles of 38 "flagship species" in a standardised form, covering a description of the response to climate change, secondary effects, possible mitigation measures and references.
